DIY Photo Card Idea: Add Your Own Embellishments at Home
While perusing Pinterest, we came across this Hand-made Card exchange post from “The Happy Scraps”. Being a big fan of arts, crafts and DIY’s, we immediately fell in love with the idea of creating handmade cards. Our only problem?
Our busy lives prevent us from crafting beautiful cards(like the ones pictured below) completely from scratch.
Thank goodness for Mixbook! The great thing about Mixbook is everything is completely customizable. There are many premade cards to choose from, or you can start a blank canvas… But we’re sure you already knew all about that.
But did you know, you can take your cards up a notch and mimic the handmade cards pictured above? Mixbook cards create a perfect “base” card that allow you to add embellishments after you’ve received your order. This creates a beautiful card that includes that “handmade” touch.
We’ve chosen 5 designs from our new holiday collection to demonstrate how easy it is to elevate a Mixbook card.
1.) Sweet Greetings
To go along with the folded card’s theme, we’ve tied a ribbon along the outside spine. We love this because it mimics the cookie cutter ornaments on the card and doubles as an actual ornament hanger. Friends and family will have the easiest time hanging your holiday card on their tree!
2.) Bright New Year
In this card, we play off the actual photo being used. With ample space at the bottom and a great sledding photo, we decided to recreate the snow using some cotton batting (felt is a great alternative as well!). It’s simple, easy, and adds a great playful touch.
3.) Family of Elves
We wanted to highlight the silliness in this already playful card. To make the hat stickers pop, we’ve used fuzzy yarn to line the bottom of the hats and little pompoms for the top. These additional accents will definitely portray holiday cheer to its receiver.
This next card has a contemporary feel that reminds us of big city lights. We love the bright colors against the gray scale card and really want to highlight them. Luckily, the circles in word “Joy” lend themselves perfectly for our craft. We’ve used glitter glue to fill in the dots, but you can use sequins, rhinestones, or just about anything that will add that extra sparkle.
This card was our favorite one to experiment with. It’s a fun one for our “advanced” crafters. For this card we’ve created the rest of the elf’s body! Instead of drawing the face, you can use funny photos of your friend’s and family. This idea is fun because the card receiver won’t realize they’re a part of the card until they’ve fully taken it out of the envelope. It’s definitely a fun surprise that your friends and family will love!
Remember, these are only a few examples of hundreds of possibilities. You aren’t limited to holiday cards either! Jazz up party invites, birth announcements and even thank you cards! Channel your inner crafter and let us know how you’ve embellished your Mixbook cards!
